The demand for sustainable products has surged as the world embraces a more mindful approach to travel. By choosing eco-conscious travel essentials, we can all play a part in nurturing a healthier planet. In this post, I’ll share some innovative and reusable gear, ethically sourced products, and space-saving packing solutions that can make a significant difference.

Here are some top products that are environmentally friendly.

Sustainable Toothpaste: Bites Toothpaste Bits

I’ve been using Bites for over a year and never looked back. I tried returning to regular toothpaste, but it tasted like sugary chemicals. I noticed a difference in my teeth and my smile, and I also feel good about using a better product for the environment.

The best thing about the Bites Toothpaste Bits is that they are free of harsh chemicals and promote zero waste. They’re also TSA-approved and save so much room in your travel bag. It's a win-win for both you and the environment. When I first ordered from Bites, they sent me a small refillable bottle that I use to this day.

Bites has many other environmentally friendly products, so I highly recommend perusing their site.

Pro-Tip: Save that small bottle when you order with Bites and pack the bits for your traveling days. It’ll save room in your toiletry kit, so you won’t have to use the bigger container.

Sustainable Haircare: Shampoo and Conditioner Bars

Until recently, I used Gemz—a travel-friendly shampoo/conditioner company with water-dissolvable solids—but fortunately, they had run out of products. As much as they were a gem to have, those packets took up a lot of space in my toiletry bag during two-week vacations. So, it was a good time to try something new. After intense googling, I found Zero Waste Store and tried their bars.

In just a few days of use, my scalp felt clean, and my hair was soft and healthy with a luster I only see after using other products—even my hairdresser noticed the difference! The products saved so much room in my toiletry bag. As a bonus, it lasts for the duration of my trips, and both can be used in different ways.

The shampoo can be used as a body and face wash. The conditioner can also be used when shaving, so there is no need to pack shaving cream or face/body wash!

Other Sustainable Products

Every day, inventors and engineers are coming together to create products that are prevalent in saving our great green earth. Here are a few more of my favorite travel buddies I take along with me that I believe would benefit you on your next adventure:

Reusable Water Bottle: Using a reusable water bottle is a highly effective way to care for our environment. Did you know that only 5%- 6% of plastics are recycled in the US? Studies are showing more and more findings of microplastics in our drinking water! That’s why I use Tervis. Having Tervis’ reusable bottle on me helps reduce single-use plastics while holding 32oz of water and keeps cool from the sun's harsh glare.

Another recommendation I wanted to make was for anyone who travels in places where the water is questionable: invest in Grayl bottles. Their products purify the water, making drinking completely safe without worrying about your health.

Laundry Sheets: In Iceland, I picked up a tip to do my laundry while there. When I didn’t have a lot going on, I hand-washed my clothes and hung them to dry. I used a portable washing machine I got from Temu. However, on my first attempt to use it, the machine made a ruckus, got water everywhere, and made me feel like the lid would project itself across the room. Ever since that experience, I looked up other feasible, neater, quieter, and, most importantly, less destructive ways to wash my clothes. While researching, I came across laundry sheets and tested them at home. I’m glad I found this solution, as it was simple and very easy to use. The best part is that it doesn’t take up room in your bag and can easily fit in your toiletry bag! It’s the perfect way to do laundry while remaining environmentally conscious.

Drying Rack: With handwashing comes drying. While it does take time to air dry clothes, it significantly reduces the carbon footprint. Skip setting a towel down in the closet while using hangers to dry your damp clothes and consider purchasing a travel-size drying rack! The one I found online is the perfect size to dry your laundry efficiently, and it can fold up to fit in your suitcase.

Key takeaway: Travel with purpose! By choosing sustainable travel products, you're investing in your adventure, the health of the planet, and the well-being of local communities.

Pack your bags, embrace the journey, and make a positive impact with every step you take. Together, we can create a more sustainable future for travel.
