Real Talk, Real Travels: New Direction for To Be Explored

Writer's picture: Kate DrexelKate Drexel

As I’ve journeyed through various landscapes and faced the peaks and valleys of my own mental health, I discovered I want this blog to become a reflection of my growth—both as a traveler and as someone navigating life with anxiety and depression.

Today, I’m excited to announce To Be Explored's new direction, one that embraces a more personal connection with each of you. With my new tagline, "Real Talk, Real Travels: Healing the Mind, One Adventure at a Time," I’m stepping into a space where we can explore the world together, not just through the places we visit but through the honest, authentic experiences that shape us along the way.

Starting in September, you will see more posts about mental health and travel that will educate, advocate, and inspire you to travel and heal your mind.

A Personal Evolution

Back in mid-May, I posted on Instagram how mental health is something that is personally important to me, yet I barely scratched the surface of how deep it goes. I gave a brief overview of my longstanding battle with depression and anxiety and how I always had to force a smile for a simple social media post.

I am going to get real with you, my readers, as I share my journey with mental health and how travel ties in. I will preface this: my depression and anxiety never went away while traveling. It always came up in some form. For example, I sometimes get anxious whenever I buy plane tickets or book hotels. Or there are times when I got depressed because I couldn't do certain things like hiking with chronic knee pain (which has been resolved since mid-June with a surgery that corrected the problem).

Depression, anxiety, overwhelm, and overstimulation come in various ways, shapes, or forms while traveling. And I want to share my experiences with it in hopes that you will yourself in my words and learn how to keep fighting the good fight.

New Tagline, Same Mission

Many wonderful changes are happening within To Be Explored, including our new tagline, "Real Talk, Real Travels: Healing the Mind, One Adventure at a Time." This phrase embodies the heart of what To Be Explored is all about—authentic experiences, genuine struggles, and the healing power of travel.

I have a lot of exciting things coming down the pipeline in the upcoming weeks and months that I can’t wait to share.

Strengthening Our Connection

As To Be Explored continues to evolve, I aim to foster a profound, more intimate connection with you all. Together, we’ll explore how travel can be a path to healing and self-discovery, all while sharing practical tips and insights that speak to our shared experiences.

As I take this step towards a deeper bond with you all, I’m eager to continue sharing the destinations and the meaningful moments and insights that come with them. Together, let’s embrace the journey ahead—one filled with real talk, real travels, and the healing power of each adventure. Here’s to exploring the world and ourselves, one step at a time.
